ABOUT THIS SITE
The Department of Prisons, being a public service, has a duty to ensure that everything that is happening in prisons is done in transparent and accountable manner, and that the public should be informed of activities, successes, failures and problems of the department.

Accordingly, this site will act as a cheap and convenient tool to communicate to the general public.

The development of this site was initiated by the European Union in 2000 under the "GoM-EU (Government of Malawi - European Union) Promotion of Rule of Law and improvement of Justice" programme and had been under the sponsorship of this programme, until its phasing out in December 2005.

Hence, we would like to acknowledge the goodwill of the European Union for introducing this tool to the Malawi Prisons Department, which will go a long way in enhancing information dissemination and transparency for the Department to the public.
